Visitation Restrictions Roll Back – Travel Related New Guidance

Edgewood Summit has been advised by the WV Bureau of Public Health and the Kanawha Charleston Health Department of a surge in the number of positive cases throughout West Virginia. Kanawha County is particularly experiencing a much higher positive number of cases as well. Therefore, the recommendation is to roll back the visitation requirements to prior levels for all levels of living.

Effective on Monday, July 13, 2020, Edgewood Summit visitation on campus will restrict and limit all visitors to end of life situations and direct care only. Routine and previously scheduled visitation cannot be permitted at this time. We are predicting this level of visitation in an attempt to allow for positive COVID cases to return to lower levels. Screening will remain in place.

The number of positive COVID-19 cases being reported across the United States is also prompting Edgewood Summit to make modifications to our screening process and requirements for entry to the buildings for Residents, Employees and Visitors who are coming or returning from outside West Virginia or from overnight travel within the state. Travel is not recommended by the CDC and the safest strategy is to stay home. If travel cannot be avoided, then Edgewood Summit will require the following to ensure safety for all in our Community:

* For Visitors related to direct care or end of life situations, a 14- day self-isolation or a negative COVID-19 test within the 72 hours preceding entry to the building is required.

* For Residents and Employees, self-isolation of 5 days upon return home following any overnight travel and then a COVID-19 test with a negative result is required to resume normal activities or a 14-day period of self-isolation upon return.

Edgewood Summit will require a written copy of the COVID-19 test results for our records.

Thank you for your continued cooperation as we navigate the uptick in positive COVID-19 cases in our state and around the country. Edgewood Summit’s modifications to the requirements are intended for our continued status of no positive cases at Edgewood Summit. We appreciate the compliance with wearing masks, social distancing and frequent hand washing/hand sanitizing and with all safety requirements.
